Madagascar

On October 13, 1861 four Sisters of St Joseph of Cluny landed at the port of Tamatave. Sister Alphonsus Liguori QUENIN and Sister Marcelline ROBBE remained in Tamatave and right away opened a school, while Mother Gonzaga MAUX and Sister Hortense PETICOUP, accompanied by Jesuit Priests, went to the capital, Antananarivo. They reach there on November 11, 1861. Upon their welcomed arrival, they began to gather the girls in order to open a school in Andohalo. Among our sisters’ first students, we want to point out, was Victory Rasoamanarivo (photo) who was beatified by Pope John Paul II on April 29, 1989.
