Year of Consecrated Life

In November of 2013, Pope Frances announced that 2015 would be the year of Consecrated Life, the theme being:

“Consecrated life, in the Church today: Gospel, Prophecy, Hope”

The year officially began November 30th, 2014, that being the first Sunday of Advent. It will close on World Day of Consecrated Life, February 2, 2016.

The objective of this year is to raise awareness of consecrated life and to promote it around the world.

In his apostolic letter to all consecrated people in November 2014, Pope Francis indicated three aims for this year:

  • Look to the past with gratitude
  • Live the present with passion
  • Embrace the future with hope

He also presented several challenges:

  • Be joyful: "Where there are religious, there is joy."
  • Be a prophet: "I am counting on you to wake up the world."
  • Be in communion: "You are called to be experts in communion"
  • Be on mission: "go into all the world."
  • Be questioning: “what it is God and people today are asking of you”

Cluny Sisters around the world have celebrated this year of Consecrated Life in their local communities, parishes and dioceses. We thank all those who attended the many congregation and diocesan events. Let us continue to pray for all religious serving the church and for all those discerning a vocation!
