On Caring for Our Common Home

Released June 18, 2015, Pope Francis’ encyclical ‘Laudato Si’, ‘On Care for our Common Home’ is a cry of alarm at the ecological crisis, and a call for individual and collective responsibility. The fact is the earth is suffering because of the "irresponsible use we make of all the gifts God has placed in it" and the first victims are the poorest ...

"The cry of the earth and the cry of the poor come together and are one and one will not find a cure for the earth’s cry without finding a remedy for the cry of the poor". (Bernard Clerc)

The Pope invites us to have a conversion that leads to a renewal of our relations with the world around us, with others and with God.

He addresses to us an urgent appeal for a new dialogue on how we are shaping the future of the planet (No. 14). "The gravity of the ecological crisis demands that we all look to the common good, embarking on a path of dialogue which demands patience, self-discipline and generosity, always keeping in mind that ‘realities are greater than the idea" (No. 201).

It sends a message to all people of good will, believers and nonbelievers, "Rather than a problem to be solved, the world is a joyful mystery to be contemplated with gladness and praise" (No. 12) .
